SK (Sara Knaves)

Where are you from? (Provide a little bit of your background, have you moved, etc)
I'm a 44-year-old woman from Italy. I live in the small town where I was born. I moved and traveled when I was young, but I came back here because of the family.
Can you tell us about your background and what lead you down the path to becoming an artist and ultimately experimenting with NFTs?
I have loved almost every form of art since I was a child. I've always looked for a way to express my creativity, my conflict, and my imagination, but I came from a family with "traditional" work expectations. I followed very different paths from what I had in mind and dreamed of for the future. Then, with the arrival of my son and later the pandemic, I found the time and strength to partially resume my artistic vein; at least, I hope this is a start. I learned about a new route, the NFTs world, and I love adventures, so why not?
When did you mint your first NFT? What platform did you choose and why?
I spent a month more or less looking for info on this new world (new for me at least), and it seemed very complicated to me, but in the end I managed to understand at least the basics. So, I finally minted my first NFT on OpenSea in March or April 2022. It seemed to be the most famous marketplace at the time, so the most reliable, given my ignorance of everything else.
Can you tell us one thing you cannot live without? (and why)
Art, music, dreams, wish and desire of discovering, learn, magic
Who is your favorite artist(s) (Non NFT)? What about their style resonates with you?
I don't have "one" favorite artist, and my interests are multiple. If I had to name a few, I'd say Caravaggio, Magritte, Bosch, and many others from the past; Andy Warhol for pop art, trash movies, comics, and street art. I don't have a name, but I'm inspired by historical and social movements of various kinds.
Who is your favourite NFT artist? What makes this artist unique?
Ok, this is another difficult question, because as I start to explore and get to know more and more different artists and styles... not to name too many, I would say OldManHead has been one of my favorites from the beginning (he's damned good! ), TinyBrains and his fabulous pixel art, Lil Granny and her crazy and ironic character, Joanz's interpretative skulls, IJWBAA's minimalistic approach, and really many others.
What made you pursue NFT art?
I love the fact of having built a collection, being able to create others, and having a place to exhibit them. I love the fact that I have met other artists with whom to share works, thoughts, and doubts and to be able to grow with them. It's a world full of opportunities. By now, it has become home and, at the same time, a world yet to be discovered.
What is the one NFT you wish you had purchased but missed out on
There are so many of them! I was unable to buy because of a financial constraint. I would like to buy so many. They are there, but you can't have everything!
If you could travel anywhere in the world where would you go? Why this location?
Really? Do you want me to start an infinite list of the places I would like to see? No, you don't want it right! They're too much. I thirst for adventure and discovery. I wish I was an Indiana Jones-style explorer.
What are your other passions besides art? Why?
Movies or comics—another dream in the drawer because I would like to be able to tell the stories that my mind continuously creates. I'm constantly living other lives, but it takes a lot of time, which I don't have right now. Maybe my mind works nonstop because I travel more. I could spend all my life traveling, discovering, getting more knowledge, and living adventures. I think I watched and read too many movies, books, and comics.
Do you make other forms of art?
My mind makes tons of forms of art! But in reality, no, I don't have enough time. Invent stories for my child; is that an option?
Are you self taught or trained?
Yes, I am. I just love to draw, and I try to do my best and improve myself.
How did you come up with your specific style?
I haven't found my style yet. I've tried to create characters that don't take too much time, but they're always evolving. They are already very different from the first Boo Babies I created. I would also like to explore new styles and characters and, time permitting, create another collection too.
How has your style evolved over the years?
I started trying to be flat and clean, but my nature guided me to be more realistic and to play more with lights and shadows. I would like to be able to summarize and be more but my mind always tries to add more and more details.
What is coming in the near future?
I don't know, really; it depends on free time! But I won't give up, for sure! I love drawing, and I want my son to feel free to follow his dreams and show him that nothing is impossible!
If you could collaborate with one artist who would it be? (and why)
I don't know if my ideal collab is really NFT-style, because I would create a story. I love OldManHead's style, and I've already done a collab with him, but it was just an illustration, and I would create a comic book.
What was your greatest failure and what did you learn from that?
My greatest failure is the regrets I have for not having had the strength to pursue my dreams and passions sooner, so even if it doesn't work, no more regrets!
What is your biggest piece sold?
The biggest is not the most expensive, but the first one I sold because that is where my plus motivation began.
How much did it sell for?
Just for 0.0035, if I may say so, I hate the standard prices of this world. I spend hours drawing, researching, etc., and it's not the price as an end in itself, but the fact of devaluing one's art and effort.
Do you have any upcoming drops?
Yes, I'm ending the Wacky Races-inspired wave of babies.

Anything else you'd like to share?
It's a hard path, and some times I feel tired and disillusioned. But then I think about how it was without doing my art—how much I was sad and frustrated—and I rediscover the strength that dreams and hope give me. I look at my son, and the best wish I have for him is "never stop dreaming!" Well, he starts in a better way. He's just 4 years old, and he has his first original art collection in Opensea!
